Dealing with Dental Problems in Dogs

Dental issues in dogs are close to my heart. My dog suffered a mouth injury when she was six months old. Due to frustration from limited exercise caused by another physical injury, she damaged the pulp cavity of all her remaining teeth through chewing. I faced three difficult choices:

  1. Wait for her to develop gum abscesses, give her painkillers, and watch her destroy her gums due to frustration.
  2. Remove all her teeth before abscesses develop, give her painkillers, and watch her destroy her gums due to frustration.
  3. Euthanize her to avoid subjecting her to unnecessary pain.

In 2021, I made the tough decision to put her down. Here’s our last photo together:
